Chloë Moretz talks swimming struggles

Chloë Grace Moretz "can't really swim", despite having to look like a pro in new flick The Little Mermaid.

The 18-year-old actress was recently cast as the lead in the upcoming adaptation of the classic tale by Hans Christian Andersen. While she admits the thought of taking on the role is "mind-blowing", there's one aspect of the shoot she is somewhat nervous about.

"I can't really swim!" Chloë admitted on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night (13Jan16). "I mean, I can but I'm not a strong swimmer. Maybe that's the new story - a mermaid who learns to swim!"

Chloë is just starting to prepare for the movie, and knows one of the toughest parts will be having to swim while wearing a prosthetic tail. But the fear of that aspect is overtaken by the excitement the teenager has about the project.

"It definitely was one of the most exciting things I've ever booked because it's just something I grew up with," she said. "The Little Mermaid - we all kind of grew up with it, at least knowing it.

"I'm right in the process of starting to prepare. I have to learn how to swim with a tail. It's been kind of crazy. It could potentially be a horrible job. I still have a few months to process it."

Later in the interview, Jimmy asked Chloë if she ever checks herself out on Google, to which she replied: "I try not to, but it's so hard!"

The chat show host then proceeded to type the actress' name into the search engine to see what came up as the predicted questions related to the young star. Several questions appeared to be about her relationship status, with the Kick-Ass star clarifying that she is indeed single.

There also seemed to be many queries about Chloë's cello playing abilities, after she learned to play the instrument for 2014 movie If I Stay.

Chloë's latest film The 5th Wave sees her battle to save her little brother from a host of aliens trying to take over the world. With four older brothers herself, she admitted it was fun to be the oldest for once - and she enjoyed bossing young co-star Zackary Arthur around.

"Having a younger brother in The 5th Wave was good because I was able to boss him around - I kind of got payback for everything that I dealt with so he was really lucky to work with me!" Chloë joked. "It was fun to have more of an adult feeling around a little brother because I've never had a little brother. And I'm usually the youngest on set."
