Chloë Grace Moretz: 'My family thought I was crazy'
Chloë Grace Moretz's family thought she was crazy when she started reciting her brother's scripts as a young girl.
The 18-year-old star scored her first movie role at the tender age of eight, appearing in the remake of classic scary flick The Amityville Horror. Her older brother is also into acting, which is where Chloë picked up her passion.
"It started when I was about six or seven," she recalled to Germany's Bravo magazine. "My brother was at the Professional Performing Arts School in New York and I always listened to him practising his lines. I picked it up quickly and recited them to anyone who'd listen. My family just thought: 'OK, she's crazy!' But I had so much fun pretending to be someone else. Then we moved to LA and shortly after that I got my first role in The Amityville Horror."
Chloë starred in a further classic horror remake when she filmed Carrie in 2013. However, reactions were mixed and the criticism she read online was hard to take.
"I felt fat; I felt not pretty. I felt like I didn't really know who I was. I was so confused; I was scared. I had bad acne," she sighed to Marie Claire. "I felt incredibly insecure."
Luckily she's picked herself back up and is enjoying a busy filming schedule that includes a film adaptation of Gillian Flynn's book Dark Places and fairytale The Little Mermaid. That means it's all work and no play for now, which suits Chloë just fine.
"I don't want to date older people, because I'm 18 and older people are more serious. Then I kind of realised, 'I'll go on dates. Why not?' And that's kind of how I am right now," she recently smiled. "I'm not looking for a while. At least until I'm, like, 23."
