Caitlyn: Transition didn't spark my split
Caitlyn Jenner didn't leave ex-wife Kris thinking she'd ever transition.
The former couple were married for 22 years as husband and wife, when Caitlyn was known as Bruce. Since their 2013 split speculation started mounting that Bruce identified with being a woman, and earlier this year the Olympic athlete revealed her new identity as Caitlyn.
In a forthcoming episode of Caitlyn's reality TV show I Am Cait, the exes have a heart-to-heart.
“I'm really happy for you, I really am," Kris said. "But sometimes we miss having Bruce around... we all do."
“I did not leave you thinking I was going to transition," Caitlyn replied. "I didn't know what I was going to do. I never thought I'd be here."
Caitlyn publically came out as transgender in an interview with Diane Sawyer in April, revealing her new identity two months later on the cover of Vanity Fair.
During both interviews she spoke about her relationship with Kris, telling Diane: "If she had been really good with it and understanding, we’d probably still be together."
She later said that not getting Kris to understand was a mistake. The two have children Kendall and Kylie together. Caitlyn also still remains close to his former step children Kim, Kourtney, Khloé and Rob Kardashian.
"We did have a lot of great times. We've moved on, both of us, but I don't want to throw all of the good times away," Caitlyn explains on her show.
"And so for the kids, Kendall and Kylie, I don't want tension. I don't want to put them in a tough position. This is really very, very difficult."
