Caitlyn Jenner legally a woman
Caitlyn Jenner has legally been declared a woman by a Los Angeles judge.
The former Olympian confirmed she was transitioning in April (15), when she was still known as Bruce. She revealed her new identity on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in June (15), and in September (15) she filed documents at the Los Angeles Superior Court requesting a name and gender change.
During a brief hearing in Santa Monica today (25Sep15), Judge Gerald Rosenberg approved the 65-year-old star’s request. Caitlyn was not in attendance according to TMZ, and her full name has been changed from William Bruce Jenner to Caitlyn Marie Jenner.
Other information, such as the former athlete’s medical history, was sealed by the court. This was after a request by Caitlyn, who said she has received “unwelcome negative attention from private citizens”, according to People. She is also said to have made it clear that the majority of the public’s reactions to her transition have been positive.
The star has become an outspoken member of the transgender community since opening up about her transition, and she has also shot a reality show about her new life called I Am Cait.
Several of her family members, including her ex-wife Kris Jenner’s children Khloé and Kim Kardashian, have appeared in it.
The whole family has been open about coming to terms with the changes in Caitlyn’s life, with her daughter Kendall discussing her transition this week (beg21Sep15). At the moment Kendall still calls Caitlyn dad, with her full blessing, and she admitted it took her a while to feel ready to meet Caitlyn. That was because once she did, she knew she would never see Bruce again.
“I feel like it's a process. It's something to get used to for sure. But the only thing is I haven't met her,” she said in a preview for the family’s reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
“It's also a letting go thing. It's like when you officially meet her it's like he's gone. I think that's what I'm holding on to. That's why I've taken so long to meet her.”
