Anton Yelchin's cause of death revealed
Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin died of blunt traumatic asphyxia.
The 27-year-old, best known for playing Chekov in the hit sci-fi film franchise, was killed after friends found him pinned in between his car and a brick mailbox at his San Fernando Valley home in California on Sunday (19Jun16).
According to TMZ.com, police officers did not suspect foul play and now Selena Barros, an investigator with the coroner's office, confirms there were "no obvious suspicious circumstances involved."
A representative for Yelchin announced the tragic news on Sunday, stating, "Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning. His family requests you respect their privacy at this time."
Following the reports, many of his co-stars and friends, including Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, J.J. Abrams and John Cho, paid tribute to the late star. "Devastated by our friend's loss," Zoe wrote on Twitter. "We are mourning his passing and celebrating the beautiful spirit that he was. #RIPAnton".
Meanwhile, after Yelchin's death on Sunday, reports indicated his and other 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees were part of a recall linked to other roll away crashes. A representative for Fiat Chrysler, who manufacture the vehicles, has now confirmed they will be investigating the incident, according to Gizmodo.com.
"FCA US extends its most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Yelchin," a statement from a company spokesperson reads. "The Company is in contact with the authorities and is conducting a thorough investigation. It is premature to speculate on the cause of this tragedy."
