Ansel Elgort signs record deal
Ansel Elgort has signed a record deal as DJ Ansolo.
The 21-year-old actor is most famous for his role in 2014 movie The Fault in Our Stars, but now his musical alter ego’s move into the DJing world has been made official thanks to a deal with Island Records.
Ansel is hoping that signing with the label will begin to cement his status as a “credible” musician.
“The last thing I want to be is a joke or to not be credible,” he told Rolling Stone magazine. “I want to enter the music industry and be respected as a musician, not just as a celebrity trying to become a musician. So I played a lot of shows but was always opening. I didn’t headline until I knew that I had a fan base.”
The star has been actively building a reputation for himself as a DJ by playing festivals and music events over the past few years.
Ansel was first inspired to enter the music industry after listening to a Laidback Luke remix of John Legend’s track Heartbreaker.
And now he is hoping for similar success with his forthcoming debut single To Life and the four-track EP it is taken from, which needs to be finished with vocals.
“I guess I would call [my music] groovy club music, a bit progressive,” he said. “It can be euphoric at times, and it can be intense at times. It makes you feel things.
“For To Life, there are a lot of real instruments in the track, which is a great way to mix nostalgia and this new thing. I’m going to try to get disco-inspired musicians and people playing great bass lines. The next EP will be like a new version of disco that will also have my groovy, clubby sound. It’s something new.”
