America Ferrera: 'I can't control my laughter'

Actress America Ferrera is embarrassed by her struggle to keep a straight face.

The 31-year-old star made it big thanks to her role as loyal personal assistant Betty Suarez in TV series Ugly Betty, which also established her as a natural when it comes to comedy. Her sense of humour doesn't always pay off though, especially when it prolongs filming.

"I am the worst at keeping a straight face - the worst," she sighed to Entertainment Weekly. "I break all the time. Ask anybody who’s ever acted with me. It’s terrible. And also, to the point where it’s, like, not funny anymore. Because they’re just like, OK, America, it’s three in the morning. Can you stop laughing so we can all go home?'"

Luckily America rarely accepts roles which require her to put on a serious front. Working alongside British funnyman Ricky Gervais on his movie Special Correspondents was memorable for the actress, as she finally wasn't the only person giggling on set.

There are other stars America has on her list of people to work with, including Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett.

"At the moment, I’m obsessed with Cate Blanchett," America gushed. "I would love to act with her. We are co-stars in How to Train Your Dragon, but we don’t ever get to work together, which is so sad. I would be anything with her onscreen. I would do anything. If she’s reading this, she should know I will do whatever to act with her."

On the topic of obsession, America was asked to share her weirdest fan encounter. Upon discovering a loyal follower had her initials tattooed on them, she felt "creeped out". "I just said, 'Oh, OK! Bye!'" she laughed.
