Aimee Osbourne: It’s been a frustrating journey

Aimee Osbourne didn’t want to be part of her family’s reality show, as she was still trying to figure out who she was.

The 32-year-old is the eldest daughter of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne and wife Sharon. She has two younger siblings, Kelly and Jack and the family featured on hit MTV show the Osbournes which aired from 2002 until 2005. However Aimee chose not to be part of the programme and in a new interview with British newspaper The Independent, she revealed why.

“Back then, I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on earth would I want that portrayed on television?" she said. "I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable. It didn't matter what I thought, ultimately. This was their path, their decision, and they were of course at liberty to take the opportunity. Which they did."

Aimee, who was 18 at the time, moved out of their California home and despite the show’s huge success she never felt like changing her mind. While the family has been through a lot in the subsequent years, Aimee has remained out of the spotlight, steadfastly working on the music career she has always dreamed of.

“It's been a frustrating journey, a lot of trial and error. For years it felt like I was swimming in the ocean, all by myself,” she admitted. “I've lived through a lot of dark environments one way or another while growing up and that has influenced my songwriting. And, yes, I suppose melancholy is a running theme."

While Aimee doesn’t have a record deal yet, she has already started releasing music and will only sign with a record company that will allow her to retain full creative control.

“I never had to battle for my identity," she added. "I have always been me."
