You're wearing your best outfit, your hair is styled to perfection and you're heading to one of the best bars in town - so why do you feel so nervous before your date? With so many things running through your head it can be easy to lose the excitement only for it so be replaced by severe anxiety before you step out the door.

Don't be held back by it though, as experts have shared to Daily Mail Online some wonder foods that can leave you feeling chilled.

Crunchy vegetables

Rather than gobbling down on mints to ensure you're VERY obviously kiss worthy, nutritionist Cassandra Barns recommends gnawing on the likes of carrots, apples and celery before your date. Why? Because these fresh veggies may scrape out any plague left in your mouth that will leave you with bad breath. There's another benefit to these snacks too, as she explained: "In addition, celery is a natural diuretic so it will help to fight water retention and bloating."

Water is key too, as dehydration can be one of the reasons behind bad breath.

Dar chocolate

And if it isn't the first time you and your love interest have met up, and you're thinking of taking things to the next level, this one is for you. It isn't all about being healthy, as Dr Marilyn Glenville, leading nutritionist and author of Natural Alternatives to Sugar suggests a few squares of good dark chocolate to get you in the mood for 'romancing'.

"Chocolate contains several substances that may improve mood," the expert shared. "These include phenylethylamine, which can act as a brain neurotransmitter and affect your mood and pleasure.

"Chocolate also contains magnesium, one of the nutrients needed for production of serotonin, the primary hormone responsible for good mood."

Nuts

To tackle the underlying stress, tuck into a handful of nuts. Shona Wilkinson, nutritionist at SuperfoodUK.com, says feelings of anxiety and discomfort can be triggered by a person's diet, as certain foods fuel negative emotions.

"Stick to snacks that don't raise your blood sugar too quickly such as nuts including almonds, brazil nuts, hazelnuts and macadamia nuts, as these contain some protein and good fats that will reduce your cravings," she said. "They are also a good source of magnesium, which helps with efficient energy production while also being calming to the nervous system."
