YSL wipes Instagram account
Yves Saint Laurent has wiped its Instagram account following the appointment of Anthony Vaccarello.
The French fashion house is clearly determined to make a fresh start after former creative director Hedi Slimane announced his departure last week (01Apr16). Vaccarello was announced as Slimane’s replacement on Monday (04Apr16), and to mark a new era for the label, YSL has decided to clear the Instagram account of all images except for one.
All that remains is a black and white portrait image of new creative director Vaccarello, who stepped down from his role as creative director of Versus Versace - the younger, edgier sister brand of Versace – on Sunday (04Apr16) to join YSL.
The YSL Instagram account currently has 386,000 followers and Vaccarello is expected to use the social media site as his primary way of communicating with consumers in the months to come. While Slimane was in the position, the YSL Instagram remained relatively quiet compared to the brand’s Twitter and Facebook pages. These are yet to be updated and all the original images remain active on those sites.
Vaccarello had been widely tipped to take over from Slimane for some months, despite only joining Versus Versace last year (15).
Donatella Versace, Vice President of the Versace Group, confirmed his exit in a statement this week.
“While I’m sad to see him leave the Versace family, I wish Anthony Vaccarello tremendous success with his next chapter,” Donatella said.
French luxury group Kering announced the Belgian-Italian designer’s appointment on Monday (04Apr16).
Vaccarello is known for his love of asymmetric designs and was touted as the natural replacement for Slimane as they are both heavily influenced by a ‘rock chic’ aesthetic.
Vaccarello has reportedly agreed to focus completely on the brand and put his own eponymous label – which he started in 2010 - on the back burner.
