Who'll be the best dressed at this year's BAFTA Awards?
Jewel tones, lots of leg and form-fitting gowns - just some of the things we can expect to see on the red carpet at this weekend's BAFTA Awards.
Awards ceremonies are always a fight for attention, with stunning women in gorgeous gowns vying for limelight everywhere you look. With Best Supporting Actress nominee Kate Winslet admitting she has "almost" settled on an ensemble for the star-studded ceremony, taking place in London, England, on Sunday night (14Feb16), what can we predict the actress will be wearing?
The 40-year-old actress doesn't have a designer of choice when it comes to her red carpet ensembles, instead choosing to showcase designs from Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford and Valentino among others over the past year. Valentino's gowns are always showstoppers, often channeling ball gown beauty or ethereal elegance. Wearing a design by the fashion house to collect an award would definitely be a style high point.
One thing Kate rarely steps away from is the form-fitting design. That comes as little surprise though, considering her enviable figure. What with Sunday (14Feb16) also marking Valentine's Day, Kate might break one of the cardinal red carpet rules by sporting scarlet for the event. A slinky red number with a thigh high split would be perfect for the actress, with designer newcomer Rosie Assoulin showcasing some gorgeous options in her Spring/Summer 2016 collection. Or Kate might keep it simple in a classic black gown with a slick of red lipstick referencing the romantic occasion.
Kate has some competition from Alicia Vikander, both in the Best Supporting Actress category and undoubtedly on the red carpet too. Alicia is up for her role in Ex Machina and has proved the style standout of awards season so far. She is the face of Louis Vuitton and opted for ensembles from the French brand for the Screen Actor's Guild Awards and the Golden Globe Awards last month (Jan16). It seems likely then that Alicia will choose another Vuitton creation for the BAFTAs but which will she go for? Her options so far have been more than varied, with her SAG dress featuring sequinned panels and her Globes gown simple in winter white. One thing is for sure though, Alicia will be showcasing her slim figure whatever the design. French fashion house Louis Vuitton is an all round A-list favourite, with its designs both playful and classic at the same time. Square patterns feature predominantly in its collections, which may be the direction Alicia will head in.
Hollywood veteran Julianne Moore is another one to watch on the red carpet. The actress is a fan of sticking to jewel tones, which always perfectly complement her fiery red hair. When it comes to designers, Julianne isn't picky, and has worn pieces from Givenchy and Tom Ford in recent months. Her inbuilt sense of style means she is always on the best-dressed list and never the worst. She also likes to be unique, with the Chanel custom dress she wore to the 2015 Oscars taking 27 people a staggering 987 hours to make. But a Tom design is probably a good bet, seeing as the man himself was her date to the 2016 Golden Globes. Tom famously only dresses one woman per awards show, so our money is on Julianne rocking one of his stunning dresses.
