Wang talks designer water
Alexander Wang has designed two Evian bottles.
The American designer took over as creative director of Balenciaga from Nicolas Ghesquière in 2012 and has been making even more waves in the industry with his distinct designs, which are also prominent in his eponymous label.
Now Alexander has turned his hand at water bottles as he becomes the latest big name to collaborate with Evian. He's come up with two designs - one black, one white - and both feature an enlarged bar code on the side. It's a feature that has appeared in his previous collections.
“There’s a little bit of irony to it,” he smiled to WWD.
“We don’t just live with clothes and shoes. We sit on furniture. We go to restaurants. We drink. We eat. To be able to take our brand and expand into lifestyle and work with partners that have perfected what they do is something I learn so much from and really stimulates me.”
Laurent Houel, Evian’s global brand director, added that Alexander is the perfect person to collaborate with on this venture.
“He’s also about everyday fashion that’s accessible and approachable, but with a very strong design integrity, so we really feel it’s a great match in terms of the spirit between brands," he said.
The designs will debut at Alexander's eponymous New York Fashion Week show on Saturday and the bottles will then be available in selected hotels, restaurants and retailers. He's excited to see his creations in new venues and can even imagine them being sold in a club.
“We wanted a really big magnum carried out by bottle girls with the lighters in their hands,” he added. “But that was just a request.”
