Valentino thinks pink for spring '17
Valentino wowed with a range of gorgeous pink dresses for spring/summer 2017.
In his highly anticipated solo debut designer Pierpaolo Piccioli unveiled a collection focused on wearability and colour on Sunday (02Oct16) as part of Paris Fashion Week, ushering in a new chapter for the Italian fashion house.
Held at the elegant Hotel Salomon de Rothschild, the show attracted much of the A-list, with the likes of Jessica Alba, Diane Kruger, Dakota Fanning, Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley among the celebrities seated front row.
For the clothes, Piccioli chose to rework founder Valentino Garavani’s signature tulles and lace gowns into more casual dresses, which could be worn for day or night.
For instance, a long bright pink sleeveless dress with embroidery and a deep V-neckline which was created from a burgundy fabric, and a flowing pink and Valentino red dress with tiered sleeves and relaxed resort-inspired silhouette. There was also shimmering trousers in a rose hue and a neon pink jacquard coat.
But it wasn’t all sweetness and Piccioli worked with artist Zandra Rhodes to apply designs inspired by Early Netherlandish artist Hieronymus Bosch onto some of the pieces, such as a long-sleeved dress printed with imagery from the famed The Garden of Earthly Delights altarpiece, as well as other symbols and nature motifs, such as butterfly appliques.
Like the garments, the footwear had an easy yet luxurious vibe, with heels shunned in favour of flats.
Suede ballet flats had wrap ties around the ankle like a ballet shoe and were made in pretty pinks and seafoam greens, while sandals were kept minimal, featuring ankle ties and plush velvet detailing. Accessories were also a central focus, with nearly every look matched with a cross-body purse or a tiny cigarette case, and models showing off long dagger-shaped earrings.
