Tory Burch thrilled to welcome new CFDA members
Tory Burch was "excited" to celebrate new members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America with a party at her home on Wednesday (05Oct16).
The fashion designer hosted the organisation’s annual New Members cocktail extravaganza in her New York penthouse apartment, welcoming 40 new people to the establishment, including Aurora James of Brother Vellies and Stuart Vevers of Coach. It was just as much an honour for Tory as it was the inductees as she said it represented all she stands for in the fashion industry.
“I love what the CFDA does,” she gushed to Vogue.com. “I love that an American company really embraces new exciting talent and really nurtures them and helps them build their business. For me, someone who supports women entrepreneurs, it’s really exciting to be a part of it.”
Steven Kolb, the CEO of the CFDA, was also present and shared his thoughts on how the business is changing, pointing out how some designers have shunned seasons in favour of see-now buy-now to make things more “comfortable” for themselves.
He also praised Tory for holding the event in her own abode and her “gracious” nature.
“Many of the designers that become part of the CFDA are in the early part of their career, and they are really working hard and looking towards the future,” he told WWD. “When you are hosted by someone like Tory - who’s had that same struggle and who’s had great success - it’s a bit of motivation. It’s like: ‘She started where we are, and now she’s become a really major brand.’”
Steven describes her involvement as like a light at the end of the tunnel, proving that success is possible.
Proving her philanthropic nature even more, Tory shared some words of advice for the newbies, telling them to ignore negativity and believe in themselves. She also urged them to take “measured risks”, ensuring their smart about their decisions.
