Tom Ford to stage first ever menswear show
Tom Ford will present his first ever men’s runway show in January (16).
Up until now, the designer has always held press appointments in his studio to give buyers a chance to scope out his new menswear pieces. But according to WWD, he will send models down the catwalk at London Collections: Men for Fall 16.
It’s believed he will have the 6.30pm slot on January 11 2016, but the British Fashion Council will confirm the schedule on 7 December (15). It’s not yet known how the presentation will be staged.
It’s a surprising decision, as Tom shunned a traditional catwalk show for his Spring/Summer 16 womenswear collection. Rather than using models on the runway, he released a video shot by Nick Knight and starring musician Lady Gaga.
“Instead of having a traditional show this season, I decided to try something new. I wanted to think about how to present a collection in a cinematic way that was designed from its inception to be presented online," he explained to WWD.
It’s not a common format, but Tom certainly impressed Roger Vivier designer Bruno Frisoni with the bold move.
"The way collections are shown, whatever it is, fashion shows or still presentation, as we do, I think something new can be done," he told The Cut. "I was amazed by and found fantastic what Tom Ford has done. Not doing a show, but just a video. It was very strong. It's kind of breaking news to do so. This was a production, but with not so much money, and with a very good result."
