Tom Ford goes old school for Fall/Winter

Tom Ford presented a retro Fall/Winter collection to an all-star audience on Wednesday evening (07Sep16).

The American fashion designer helped kick off New York Fashion Week in style thanks to his vintage-esque runway show, with guests including Rita Ora, Hailee Steinfeld and Neil Patrick Harris sitting front row to soak in the style.

It was all about texture and patterns for this season as models strutted in everything from velvet to tweed, which many audience members described on Twitter as extremely "old school". Model of the moment Gigi Hadid looked glamorous in a floor length, long sleeved black velvet dress which was given a quirky touch thanks to leather buckles and gold plates around her waist. Another look she rocked also saw her in a black dress, this time midi length with black boots and a red, black and orange faux fur jacket over the top. The outfit screamed '60s, especially with the chunky belt with large loopholes highlighting her trim figure.

Tom injected some sparkle into the line too with the addition of garments like a metallic gold dress and a glittering pink top, but not all items were as appetising. One blonde beauty walked in a particularly offbeat outfit, made up of a blouse in various tones of denim and a brown suede skirt with pink, green and yellow swirls. There was no doubting Tom's dedication to the era though thanks to each of his models donning hairstyles from the time, such as Gigi's slicked back, side-parting finish and another girl's mullet.

Fashionistas from all generations took part in the production, with big names like Amber Valletta, Liya Kebede and Carolyn Murphy joining younger stars like Karlie Kloss and Gigi, giving proceedings an elite and special vibe.

New York Fashion Week continues on Thursday with the likes of Creatures of the Wind and Marissa Webb.
