Todd Snyder enlists Akin Akman for new Champion capsule collection

Todd Snyder has teamed up with fitness instructor Akin Akman for the next stage of his Champion partnership.

The American designer first collaborated with the classic sportswear label in 2013, creating a comfortable collection inspired by gym-issue pieces.

Snyder has now enlisted the help of Akman for a capsule collection, titled Drop One, which launches on 17 August (17).

“I really wanted to take our Champion partnership to the next level, and collaborating with a true athlete like Akin brings an authenticity to the product,” Snyder said, reports WWD.

He added that after working with Champion for four years, the new collection is “a cool way to connect with customers who may not know us”.

Drop One, which will be unveiled at the Todd Snyder New York store, features five men’s and five women’s styles of T-shirts, tanks, hoodies and shorts.

Snyder praised Akman as a brand of his own, and as well as helping create the clothes, the fitness guru stars in the ad campaign alongside model Emily DiDonato.

“I am such a fan of Todd’s. I love what his brand represents so when he approached us about collaborating, it was a natural fit,” Akman said. “Champion is a brand that truly represents my approach to fitness. Training like a champion, thinking like a champion is exactly what I strive to ignite in my army. It’s a mindset that defines both my fitness philosophy as well as my life.”

The pair initially teamed up for an advert last year, and after hitting it off they went on to co-design a limited edition T-shirt, which sold out in a day thanks to the Akman’s “Akin’s Army” of followers.
