Tabitha Webb's new casual collection

Tabitha Webb may design high end gowns, but she’s more comfortable dressed down in jeans and a tee.

The clothes maker is the designer of choice for Britain’s favourite royal the Duchess of Cambridge, and her sister Pippa Middleton. While the famous siblings flock to buy Tabitha’s dresses, the fashionista tends to shun her own line – until now. Tabitha recently launched a new casualwear line, which she describes as “more authentic” to who she really is.

“My dresses are quite posh and formal, whereas I’m such a jeans-and-T-shirt girl, as well as a noisy, bouncy person, and I don’t tend to wear dresses that often. When I do, I can’t wait to get them off. I hate dressing up, I really do,” she laughed to Britain’s Hello magazine.

“I wanted to get up in the morning and put on my own stuff, rather than other people’s, so that was how it was born.”

The new collection features denim, cashmere, T-shirts and silk shirts and dresses, with Tabitha commenting the new venture is a “complete 180” for her.

While her personal style tastes may be laidback and casual, her work ethic is anything but relaxed. When asked what she’s like as a boss, Tabitha didn’t hold back.

“I’m not easy to work for,” she admitted. “I’m a perfectionist. I can’t stand it if somebody gets something wrong. I don’t forget things, so I say something once and then never repeat it. I’m a grammar Nazi – if anyone writes an email or press release that’s wrong, it sends me over the edge. I also sing show tunes a lot. My husband says he wouldn’t work for me for all the tea in China.”

As well as her new casual collection, Tabitha has also been working with Avon to create make-up bags, handbags and umbrellas. The accessories will be available later in the spring (16).
