Stacey Bendet breathes new life into Alice + Olivia line
Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet’s Spring/ Summer 17 collection has been a “breath of fresh air”.
The American fashion star presented her latest line during New York Fashion Week on Tuesday (13Sept16) with stars like Leona Lewis and Christina Milian taking in the new season trends.
Models strutted the runway in bold brights, mixing tailored trousers with printed mini dresses and wide flared looks.
“I did The Grateful Dead (capsule), and then I did my fall kind of rock ‘n’ roll show, and then I did my Basquiat collaboration that’s coming out in October, which is a whole ‘80s, crazy moment. I was like, ‘I want a breath of fresh air,’” the designer explained to The Hollywood Reporter.
There was a chic ‘50s feel to many of the designs, with floral print dresses and cinched in waists harking back to the bygone era featured in Audrey Hepburn’s 1953 film Roman Holiday. And many of the ideas for the new designs came from a trip Stacey took to Italy.
“I went to these gardens outside of Rome called Bomarzo,” she shared. “So we did the whole concept of the show around these little girls who are playing with this book, and they open it up and there are these tarot cards. It transports them into this magical fantasy world with these monster gardens.”
While the new clothes were well received, the show wasn’t without incident, and one model reportedly fainted during proceedings. Sources tell Page Six that the unnamed girl wasn’t suffering from overheating or exhaustion, but rather had come down with a stomach bug. Security guards are said to have carried the model out, while the others continued to pose.
