Sophia Webster designs for Barbie

Sophia Webster's dream of designing shoes for Barbie has come true.

The British footwear designer is famed for her perspex detailing. Her latest project sees her combining the signature feature with the most famous doll in the world; Barbie. But while the blonde has always been sold with high heels in her wardrobe, Sophia has introduced her to flats for the very first time.

“Creating a shoe collection for Barbie has always been my dream project, but getting to be a part of her embracing flats for the first time made it extra exciting, and deeply personal," she told British Vogue. "I love that this concept strikes a balance between dreams and reality - the idea of getting Barbie in some hi-tops and setting her loose in East London instantly appealed."

Barbie’s favourite colour – pink – features heavily in the collection of nine shoe styles. Six of these are for adults while the other three are miniature versions for children.

Within the adult range there are three pairs of heels, one pair of flats and two pairs of trainers. A pair of hi-tops feature pink laces and piping with pale blue accents. Meanwhile closed toe heels feature multi-coloured ball detail heels with Barbie and Doll emblazoned on the front of each shoe. The most striking pair from the range are a pair of white high-heeled strappy sandals which feature ornate pink fairy wings on the back and a matching ankle strap.

The range debuts in Selfridges, London from today. But Sophia’s passion for the plastic doll doesn’t end there. Next month she will also be launching a limited-edition doll which will be encased in a specially designed box. The Barbie will of course be wearing a miniature pair of Barbie by Sophia Webster Riko hi-top glitter trainers to complete the collectables look.
