Sandra Choi is oblivious to celebrities

Sandra Choi never gets starstruck because she doesn't recognise celebrities.

The shoe designer is currently creative director of Jimmy Choo and her shoes have been worn by countless A-listers over the years. That doesn't faze Sandra though, who admits she is oblivious when in the presence of a big star.

"This is really embarrassing, but I actually don't recognise people," she laughed to harpersbazaar.com. "The first time we were in Los Angeles for the Oscars, we had a suite and I was left alone. I don't know if it was jet lag or if I was just in a weird space, but Angelina Jolie walked in and I had no idea who she was. It was around 1999. She showed up, looked at some old sample, and offered to buy it. I said to her, 'First of all, they've been worn, so I don't know why you'd buy them, but you can borrow them.'"

Sandra was born on the Isle of Wight but studied in Hong Kong, then moved to London to pursue her fashion dream. Her aunt is married to Jimmy Choo himself, giving her the perfect path into the industry and in 2013 she was named the sole helm of the brand.

It wasn't meant to happen this easily though as Sandra explained she had planned more studies before looking for a job.

"All I wanted all my life was to go to Central Saint Martins (in London) and get into the fashion course, and right when I did, the Jimmy Choo thing happened," she recalled. "I was in the same year as Stella McCartney, but we never crossed paths. My high school tutor once told me, 'Don't do fashion because you'll thrive in product design,' so shoes are great because I get fashion and product in one."

Sandra now balances her work with parenthood since becoming a mother to two daughters, the hardest bit of which she jokes is "all the pink".
