Romee Strijd gushes about 'supportive' Victoria's Secret friends
Romee Strijd is grateful to her model colleagues for showing her the ropes at Victoria’s Secret.
The Dutch model was selected to be one of the newcomers at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2014 and promoted to a Victoria’s Secret Angel for the American lingerie brand the following year.
While the 21-year-old admits that relocating to New York from the Netherlands has been a big move, her model friends have been a great support.
“There are always stories (in the media) about competition behind the scenes,” she told The Edit. “But that’s just not how it is – at least not in my experience.”
In fact, before Romee’s first VS show in London in 2014, many of the models happily shared their top tips with the ingenue. And they also came to her aid during backstage interviews.
“They’d help me with my English so that I could keep the conversation flowing. It feels so good to have such support,” she revealed.
Romee still relies on her fellow models for advice and actually lives in the same block in New York’s Chelsea neighbourhood as Josephine Skriver, Taylor Hill and Jasmine Tookes.
The friends are less than a minute away from each other and frequently watch movies or hit the gym together.
And when it comes to staying in shape, Romee shares that she attends the The Dogpound gym in Tribeca at least four times a week.
“Three times by myself and once with friends. Because I think it’s fun to do breakfast beforehand or lunch afterwards. It’s great to have friends there to motivate you,” she explained, adding that she’s found a routine that prioritises strength over skinniness. “I like the idea of helping people find balance in life, advising on how to exercise and eat properly.”
