Carine Roitfeld deliberately avoided making her magazine sexy.

The fashion journalist launched CR Fashion Book in 2012, which has since become one of the most popular style publications on the planet. After having styled a raunchy photoshoot for her good friend Tom Ford during his time at Gucci many people predicted she'd follow a similar approach for her own work. However, Carine ditched the 'porno chic' reputation for CR.

“People expected me to do it all very sexy, so instead we did it full of babies and birth. Even Karl [Lagerfeld] said, ‘I’m not sure I like it, but you surprised me, and I like that,'" she recalled to about the spread featuring models cuddling baby animals and young children.

Karl shot the main spread for CR's third edition, which saw Kim Kardashian heavily pregnant with daughter North. Riccardo Tisci directed and Carine enjoyed getting to meet the selfie queen and her now-husband Kanye West.

“I like Kanye, and I think she was a lovely person, so why not?” Carine explained. “Everyone hates her, but they’re all jealous! What has she done to be so hated? She was hated in fashion - no one wanted to give us clothes for her - but she had the most Twitter followers in the world. And she’s a hard worker, I think.”

Featuring in the latest issue of CR Fashion Book is plus-size model Candice Huffine, who is the star of Sophie Theallet's Fall 15 campaign. The powerful ad sees the brunette beauty wearing a pair of black high-rise panties and a sheer netted top slouched beneath her shoulders.

“The concept was to create an image of Candice and to show her beauty and sensuality as a protagonist. She’s a strong woman, so she totally embodies the DNA of S.T. [Sophie Theallet],” the designer said.
