Reem Acra's fashion journey

Reem Acra has fashion embedded in her DNA.

The designer is famous for her feminine dresses, which are worn on the red carpet by the likes of Halle Berry, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift. Her passion for all things beautiful began from a young age, as she was lucky enough to witness clothes making first hand.

"Fashion has always been a part of my life," Reem told E! News. "Growing up in Lebanon, my mother took me to the souks where I learned about different textures and fabrics. I had a live-in seamstress who helped me realise the designs I created. From a very young age, fashion, embroidery and tailoring were embedded in my DNA."

She was so driven to make a name for herself in the industry that she secured a head designer role the day after she graduated from her studies. In 1997 she founded her eponymous label as a bridal line and although she now offers eveningwear too, wedding gowns are still a big part of her business.

"I designed the Reem Acra showroom to feel like a French atelier," Reem smiled. "My vision for the space was for women to come and feel the most personal and intimate experience when choosing their wedding gown or evening wear.

"However, my best office is the one at my house, which I custom designed. It has tree sculptures to hang my designs, a desk with fabric embedded in a Lucite table and a large wall with my first ad campaign printed on it."

Reem loves being able to empower her customers by giving them confidence in her designs and enjoys the fact that every day is different when it comes to her work. She's keen to take risks, having started her brand with no money in her pocket, and has several fashion heroes who she looks up to.

"All women who make a difference. Coco Chanel, Madame Lanvin and Madame Gres, these are the women I look up to in my career," she added.
