Ralph Lauren to show menswear in NYC
Ralph Lauren is joining Milan and New York's Men's Fashion Weeks.
The famed designer is known for both his men's and women's clothing collections, however he hasn't presented menswear in years.
That's all set to change next month though, as he takes his men's Purple Label line to Milan as part of its Men's Fashion Week.
The brand will show its Spring 16 line on June 20, at the Ralph Lauren Palazzo, the former residence of Via San Barnaba and home to Ralph Lauren’s new luxury concept, which is slated for a September opening.
“Showing our Purple Label Collection in Milan has even more significance presented within the special environment of our palazzo. It perfectly captures the sophistication and refinement of the brand,” Ralph Lauren told WWD.
It's the first time Ralph has shown in the Italian city since Fall 03. The decision to present in Milan fits with the company's plans to focus on Italy. Purple Label is also high up on Ralph Lauren's agenda, and it was announced earlier this month that the brands Black Label is being diffused into the Purple Label. Luxury price points will be widened, as a tiered pricing strategy is being implemented.
As well as the Milan show, Ralph Lauren is also embracing its American roots by showing at the first New York Fashion Week: Men's.
The shows will take place in the Big Apple from July 13 to 16 and is being run by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Last week Tommy Hilfiger confirmed it will be presenting at the inaugural event, and John Varvatos has decided to move his catwalk from Milan to New York.
