Rachel Roy is adamant that all women want the same thing from fashion.

The designer rocked the red carpet at Monday night’s (06Jun16) CFDA Awards, wearing a scarlet one shouldered dress. The 42-year-old walked the carpet with plus-size model Candice Huffine, as she had created a striking tuxedo dress for the curvy star to wear.

“What I know to be true for sure is that we all want the same thing. Whether you're 14 or 44, whether you're black or white, whether you're curvy or skinny or something in between, we just want to feel beautiful,” Rachel told Pop Sugar. “And for me, I want to feel beautiful and smart. It's a myth that any of us want something other than that."

As well as turning heads for her outfit, Monday was also the first time Rachel had attended the same event as Beyonce and her husband Jay Z since allegations of an affair broke. The rumour has swirled in the past, but after Beyonce released recent album Lemonade which hinted at Jay’s infidelity, many guessed that Rachel was adulteress “Becky with the good hair” mentioned in a track.

Rachel had no time for gossip though, and has focused her attention on fashion instead.

“I knew right away, when I started working in fashion at 14 at the mall, that you can change who you are based on your thoughts, what you put on your body, and what you put on your face - it doesn't matter where you come from,” she explained. “So in that aspect, fashion is a big equaliser. I got into it wanting to make people feel good. I think some people get in because it's a dream to create art and who knows what. It all starts with the intent. So if (making people feel good) is my intent, why wouldn't I include everybody?"
