Rachel Roy unveils swimwear collections

Rachel Roy wants women to feel comfortable and sexy while wearing her swimwear.

The fashion designer is launching her first swimsuits and two-pieces, both under the umbrella of her eponymous brand. While Rachel Rachel Roy hits select Macy’s stores and online later this month (Nov16), with prices ranging from $48 (£39) to $98 (£79), the Rachel Roy range will be launching in 2017 with a higher price tag starting at $79 (£64) and going up to $185 (£149).

“Moving back to the West Coast after 20 years in New York, I’ve found myself needing year-round swimsuits and wanting to create collections that reflect me,” Rachel told WWD.

“Some women are more active at the beach than others, so we wanted to make sure that women were going to feel comfortable and supported in the constructions of the suits, but still feel sexy.”

Her signature line is all about silhouettes, cut-out detailing and luxury Italian fabrics, while the Rachel Rachel Roy pieces are more fun in their appearance thanks to features like floral prints, studs and mesh.

This is the latest venture the fashionista has put her efforts into, after unveiling a graffiti-inspired collection in October (16) along with recently designing costume jewellery and body chains and leather accessories. Rachel doesn’t dip her toe into new areas lightly though, admitting she always takes into consideration whether the finished results will be worth it.

“My goal is to always create something that is going to add value to her life and to be a business that adds value to my community,” she explained. “Both of my (swim) collections are styles that I trust - as a 42-year-old woman - to make me look both protected yet sexy. And my 16-year-old-daughter helped to shape the Rachel Rachel Roy collection with a youthful voice.”

She isn’t stopping at swimwear, noting plus-size clothes under Rachel Rachel Roy will be available in 2017.
