Proenza Schouler offering handbag customisation
Proenza Schouler is offering customers the chance to personalise key new handbag styles.
Designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez announced in June (16) that they would be putting a focus on their accessories business, and have created new "Hava" and "Hex" visual design families as well as an updated version of the brand’s hit PS1 bag design - the PS1+ - which will be available to purchase in January (17).
To make the launch of the new handbag ranges even more special, the design duo are offering fashionistas the opportunity to have key styles from the Hava collection customised at an event to be held at New York’s Bergdorf Goodman on Thursday (13Oct16).
An artisan will be on hand to whipstitch chain straps with leather lacing, per customers’ choice of colour and pattern to the bags. The Hava top-handle bags will also come with an interchangeable leather tassel. And McCollough and Hernandez will make a personal appearance at the store, where they will happily give advice to clients on combinations.
“I think more than anything (consumers) want to hear your opinion of what looks good on them,” Hernandez told WWD of the personalisation offering. “They think of us as a go-to advice person, experts on the subject. We still get questions about what colour is in this season.”
The four styles available for personalisation will range in price from $1,250 (£1,022) for the Hava chain cross body to $1,950 (£1,595) for the medium top handle Hava. Each item will take approximately 45 minutes to customise, and can be done while the customer waits.
McCollough and Hernandez, who named Judd Crane as the brand's new Chief Executive Officer in June, have previously shared that they hope to double accessories sales, which presently represent half of the brand's overall business, over the next two to three years.
