Paul Smith proud of his consistently unique offering
Paul Smith is hoping for "more of the same" when it comes to his mega successful fashion career.
The British designer has become synonymous with bold and bright offerings, but his foray into fashion came about accidentally. After an accident saw his dreams of a professional cycling career come crashing down, Paul found a passion for style when he met art students while recovering in hospital.
Since then the clothes maker has seen his designs sold in more than 70 countries, and recently debuted his new line, PS by Paul Smith.
“More of the same!” he smiled to libertylondon.com of his career goals. “I’m most proud of our consistency so if we can keep going the way we have done for the last forty years I’d be very happy!”
Paul will be appearing at London department store Liberty on Wednesday (12Oct16) to discuss his new collection and extensive career.
He’s always been a fan of Liberty’s famous prints, revealing: “I’m quite well known for my use of Liberty print. And I’m still using it now!”
“Hopefully we’re both offering something unique and something exciting,” he added when asked where he sees Liberty and Paul Smith sitting in the future fashion landscape.
The designer also touched on how his customers have changed since he first launched his label in 1970. While he laughed the question was “pretty impossible” to answer, he is pleased that people of all ages wear his clothes.
“The great thing about Paul Smith is we dress everyone from seven year olds to 77 year olds as well as doing lots of collaborations and special designs. I approach every design completely differently but try to make sure everything is well-considered and has a detail or element of the unexpected,” he noted.
