Monique Lhuillier's guide for brides

Monique Lhuillier thinks blush is a "safe" way for brides to embrace colour.

The 43-year-old designer is known for her gorgeously delicate gowns, particularly her stunning wedding dresses.

It might be traditional to wear white, but Monique doesn't think it has to be the way to go down the aisle.

"I love to design dresses with colour," she smiled to Hello! Fashion magazine.

"I think blush is the safest way to play with colour because it's neutral and looks beautiful on all skin tones. More adventurous brides will love the tones of hydrangea, lavender, gold, pistachio and mist in my spring and autumn collections."

Testimony to her talent is that singer Pink and actress Reese Witherspoon chose Monique for their dresses on the big day.

And with all her experience, Monique is best placed to give wedding tips. She advises brides-to-be to keep an open mind when dress shopping and says picking a shorter gown to change into for the reception is great for women who favour a casual vibe.

She's not all about the dress though; the designer also had wisdom for hair and make-up.

"I tell my brides not to try something new," she explained.

"Choose a hairstyle and make-up that enhance your natural beauty and that you're comfortable with. A hair and make-up test a week before the wedding is crucial."
