Monique Lhuillier: Heels are empowering
Monique Lhuillier feels powerful when wearing heels.
The fashion designer is best known for her bridalwear but also has footwear under her belt. During her New York Fashion Week show earlier this year she showcased 23 eclectic styles on the catwalk, priced between $595 and $1,100.
“Heels [over flats]! I’m petite and appreciate the empowering feeling of wearing a high heel. It’s about the power and energy that is felt when putting on a high heel that is like no other," she gushed to footwearnews.com.
Monique has around 80 pairs of shoes in her own closet, including favourites by Christian Louboutin, Fendi and Converse.
Staying true to her love of heels, the brunette fashionista chose a modern day Glass Slipper - made famous in fairytale Cinderella - as her shoe alter ego.
For Monique, creating footwear for the warmer weather gives her more freedom to experiment. This is evident in her Resort 16 range, featuring designs such as a colourful flower-patterned strappy heel with a chunky wooden heel and a similar, higher version minus the wooden heel.
“Designing for spring is fun because it is always vibrant. I love playing with colour and different textures so you can expect the collection to be full of colour - it’s happy and bright, but with an edge,” she added. “We have incorporated a lot of prints and embellishments as well as more daytime styles.”
The floral prints on the shoes are resonant of her bold and beautiful Resort clothing collection, which she revealed earlier this week was created with a relaxed feel in mind.
