Monique Lhuillier: Colour changes everything

Monique Lhuillier uses colour to make a statement.

The designer is known for her exquisite bridalwear, and even dressed Reese Witherspoon for her big day to Jim Toth in 2011.

She is also behind some of fashion's most beautiful eveningwear and showed off her latest offerings at New York Fashion Week on Saturday.

"I love to infuse colour into my collections – whether it be accessories, formalwear or more casual separates. It's a great way to make a statement, especially when wearing a simple silhouette. You should never be afraid to wear colours. I'm really into colour-blocking at the moment," Monique revealed to Vogue UK.

Her Spring/Summer 16 show was full of bright hues, with reds, blues and greens making the runway pop with colour.

Another must for Monique is accessorising, which she thinks has the power to completely change a look. Adding detail to her clothes also makes an impact.

"What I love about fashion is being able to break rules, there is no right or wrong as long as you carry a look with confidence and feminine grace," she added.

"Experiment with different silhouettes until you find the right one for you."

A lot of her latest creations featured a strapless finish. Baring the shoulders is another style rule Monique swears by.

"Nothing says sophistication and sensuality like a strapless or off-the-shoulder look – it's so chic. Bare shoulders can give a modern twist to classic tulip and column dresses," she smiled.
