Missoni puts sportswear on the spring menu

Missoni's Spring/Summer 16 show was stuffed with sportswear yesterday (27Sep15).

The label was the last to show at Milan Fashion Week on Sunday (27Sep15), with the series of shows wrapping today.

Missoni is renowned for presenting eye-popping looks rather than anything too simple, with the latest collection towing the same line. The looks were a new take on sportswear, with loose tube dresses, long cardigans and polo shirts all featured on the models.

If that all sounds a bit uninspiring, think again. To ensure nothing was dull, creative director Angela Missoni used eye-popping shades including electric blue, bold orange, reds and pinks. The iconic Missoni zig-zags were also included, as were a multitude of stripes and paisley designs - sometimes all together, which shouldn't have worked, but did.

Colour-blocking and tribal designs added to the modern feel of the collection, as did the bright swipes of blue and turquoise eyeshadow all the models rocked.

The range was ideal for the season as it called into mind vacation wear - the sort of loose kaftans women might choose to sling on when they're walking from the beach to grab a cocktail at the bar. Adding to this vibe was the inclusion of swimwear. There were swimsuit-style one pieces which had long sleeves, and knitted two-pieces reminiscent of bikinis but which could be worn as separates too. One featured a pair of high-waisted and low-legged bottoms and a crop top in a tribal red, green and blue pattern, with orange trim.

Also showing yesterday was Dolce & Gabbana, which as usual was inspired by the design duo's home country of Italy. Called Italy is Love, the collection boasted crocheted suits, rouched silk dresses, transparent skirts and bikinis.

Taking a tip from lavish fashion houses like Chanel and Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana had an impressive set which was made to look like a market. Models wandered around together, occasionally stopping to take selfies on their mobile phones in a very 2015 touch.

The Milan leg of shows finishes today with Giorgio Armani presenting, before things move to Paris tomorrow (29Sep15).
