Michael Kors' London flagship store is all about glamour
Michael Kors' new giant flagship store represents the brand's "jet-set, glamorous lifestyle".
The American designer's new spot on 179 Regent Street, London, measures at 16,276 square-foot and boasts three storeys, making it his largest flagship space in Europe. Fans can get their hands on everything under the label, including ready-to-wear pieces, accessories and watches.
For Michael, the British capital is the perfect location for such a big move.
“London is one of the world’s fashion capitals, and the shopping on Regent Street is parallel to none,” he told WWD. “It really represents what Michael Kors is all about - this fast, jet-set, glamorous lifestyle. I think Regent Street has the ultimate mix of customers, so they’ll love being able to shop for everything from a glamorous gown to a cool sneaker all in one place.”
The fashion star views London as a "continuous source of inspiration" and he loves the variety of styles seen on the sidewalk, from "East End hipsters" to more glamorous attire. His new store isn't far from where his last sat at 223 Regent Street, but the rent for the bigger one is a lot more, with real estate insiders estimating the annual price being upward of £12 million ($17.6 million).
A great deal of attention was given to the decor too, with brushed stainless steel shelves, Macassar wooden floors and tables and Calacatta marble fixtures all adding a luxurious feel.
“We wanted to create a very warm, inviting experience for both women and men,” Michael added. “There are a lot of tactile materials, including a stone runway that will guide people from the front door through the various shopping experiences. Each floor is focused on a different category, with the lower floor being men’s, the ground floor centred on accessories, and the top floor all about ready-to-wear, so it will be easy for our customers to find what they’re looking for. It also provides a sophisticated browsing experience for those days when they have a little more time.“
