Max Mara has stars in its eyes at MFW
Max Mara was the star of Milan Fashion Week with its fun prints today (24Sep15).
The brand kicked off another set of catwalks with a mostly monochrome Spring/Summer 16 collection.
Star prints appeared on several of the designs from creative director Ian Griffiths, with one model sporting the print on a black-and-white jumpsuit. She carried a large white beach bag with a bird print and finished the look off with chunky trainers.
A star pattern also adorned smart white high-waisted trousers, with a matching cape jacket and a simple black top making for a chic feel.
Designer Ian also played with the sizes of the star print, dressing one model in a white jumper with huge black stars, then replicating the print in a much smaller version on her flared trousers. A stripy long coat was layered over the top, creating a print clash that worked thanks to the continuation of the monochrome theme.
But stars weren't the only order of the day: one model shunned the pattern for a white T-shirt with a lighthouse print and a stripy gold-and-white midi skirt.
Another brought a splash of colour with a red-and-white striped maxi dress with long sleeves.
Overall the vibe was beachy, something that could well be seen on next year's (16) Cannes revellers during their days off.
"MaxMara is having a sea myth moment: Muses include Sinbad, Bluebeard. Jonah...#MFW," New York Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman commented on Twitter.
Make-up was also fun, with models given coloured eyebrows but otherwise rocking a natural look. Hair was largely slicked back in a quiff, with the rest down and straight.
Others to show at Milan Fashion Week today (24Sep15) include Fendi, Emilio Pucci and Moschino. Tomorrow (25Sep15), it's the turn of Blumarine and Versace, among others.
