Marques'Almeida up for LVMH young designers prize
Marques'Almeida is one of the LVMH prize finalists.
The brand, headed up by Portuguese designers Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida, is among the eight in the running for the young designers honour.
They face competition from labels Arthur Arbesser, Coperni, Craig Green, Faustine Steinmetz, Jacquemus, Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh and Vetements.
All of them have been picked out of a group of 26, which showed their individual collections during Paris Fashion Week. The lucky aforementioned labels were then invited into the next round by a panel of experts.
On May 22 the eight chosen ones will present their designs to the jury, after which the jurors will have lunch with Delphine Arnault, executive Vice President of the LVMH Group and Bernard Arnault, CEO of the company.
“There’s a lot of debate,” Delphine told Style.com. “It’s really interesting. Everyone has a different point of view. There are great moments. It’s also very warm and a family moment. We have all these extremely famous designers who are all in one room, which is fantastic."
The lucky winner will take home 300,000 Euros of funding and a year of mentorship. But rather than thinking ahead to what they'll do with the money, not all the finalists are focusing on the stiff competition they face.
“[It's] scary,” Arthur Arbesser admitted. “In a good way, of course. Just very overwhelming, I must say. It’s a war out there, and then when you get that call, it’s just beautiful. It gives a whole purpose to the fight and to the hard work, and that’s amazing.”
However, fellow finalist Craig Green, who made it to the semis last year, is already thinking about the cash, admitting the amount is "life changing".
But they'll have to wait until May to see who will have their life changed by being crowned LVMH's winner.
