Louis Vuitton goes for contrast at PFW
Nicolas Ghesquière set out to prove the only limit in fashion is imagination with Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 16 show on Wednesday (07Oct15).
The famed fashion house is one of the last to show during Paris Fashion Week, but its presentations are always ones to remember. That was one of the reasons stars including Miranda Kerr, Michelle Williams, Catherine Deneuve and Alicia Vikander all took their seats to see what had been created.
The theme was a magical journey, with the show notes explaining the idea was to prove that imagination is the only thing which holds people back.
What followed were pieces which contrasted, in every way possible. So there were masculine looks followed up by feminine outfits and flowing skirts teamed up with tough, structured tops.
One brilliant example of this was a knee-length dress which featured a black skirt made of silk-like fabric, draped into folds so it looked soft and inviting. This gave in to a slim-fitting black leather top, which was cut lean on the body with structured shoulders and rivet detailing down the chest.
Another interesting look saw a green and beige pencil skirt teamed with a voluminous white shirt and brown leather waistcoat. Seemingly the designer has been excited for Cara Delevingne’s new movie Pan, as this ensemble was reminiscent of the kind of thing traditional pirates wear.
Multi-coloured tailored jackets, loose shorts and lampshade skirts with matching tops in blues and greys also featured. Probably the most interesting piece was the perfecto jackets, which were cut to slim-fitting perfection. Doused in multiple colours and with slim belts at the waist, these are what all the cool girls will be wearing next year (16).
It seems there is a shoe trend on the horizon for next season too, as Ghesquière showed built-up sliders which were almost like flatforms, just as Karl Lagerfeld did for Chanel on Tuesday (06Oct15).
Paris Fashion Week wraps on Wednesday, with Moon Young Hee closing proceedings.
