Louis Vuitton casts video game character
Louis Vuitton’s latest campaign star is a video game character.
Creative director Nicolas Ghesquière has shared several images from the luxury label’s upcoming Spring/Summer 16 campaign online, with the main shots featuring a woman with pastel pink hair. He’s confirmed she is Lightning, the fictional character from computer game Final Fantasy.
The news was first confirmed several days ago when Nicolas posted a video on Instagram, along with a caption stating that “reality and fantasy become one” within it. He’s now shared some full images, allowing fans a proper look at what’s in store.
In the first, Lightning is seen wearing a simple black blouse with a ruffle down the back and at the cuff. She’s turned away from camera and staring over her shoulder while clutching a padded Louis Vuitton bag.
In another, the character is facing the camera with her head turned to the side and her pale pink locks tumbling over her shoulders. She is wearing a pair of multi-coloured shorts with a white belt and matching gloves, with a short black satiny cape and a green, black and orange padded shoulder bag completing the look.
Lightning looks completely lifelike in the shots, but via his captions Nicholas has revealed she is actually the work of Japanese video games artist, designer and director Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix’s CG studio Visual Works.
The fashion house hasn’t gone completely futuristic for the campaign though – another shot features a more traditional model in the shape of Doona Bae. She wears a silver mini-dress, thick black platform sandals, black gloves with feather detailing and a bag with the label’s famous monogram print all over it.
“Striking @donnabae is starring in the new @louisvuitton Series 4 ad campaign SS16 pic by Juergen Teller,” Nicolas captioned the shot.
