Kim Jones x Nike set for July release
Kim Jones’ capsule collection with Nike is about to hit stores.
Hot on the heels of Nike’s successful partnership with Balmain head Olivier Rousteing last month (May16), the sportswear giant has tapped Louis Vuitton designer Jones for its next NikeLab line.
Announcing details on his Instagram account, Jones kept his post brief.
“Coming July 2016,” he captioned a shot of the new Nike x Kim Jones logo.
Talking to Vogue.com earlier this year, senior design director of NikeLab Jarrett Reynolds said: “He knows tech, and he’s been part of street culture forever, so he spoke the language of Nike culture.”
According to Vogue, the inspiration behind the line was inspired by a 1978 Windrunner that quickly became a hit with break-dancers in ‘80s New York. Jones has designed a series of jackets, which can be neatly stored away when they’re not needed.
“It really gets down to almost zero when you fold it in your bag,” he told the fashion glossy.
Earlier in 2016 Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci also released Nike offerings.
London-born designer Jones has designed for various fashion houses, including Hugo Boss and McQ by Alexander McQueen, before becoming a star in his own right at Louis Vuitton. He’s been at the French fashion house as its style director since 2011, becoming known for his luxury streetwear.
Zayn Malik is a huge fan of his work, and despite a celebrity following, Jones admits he doesn’t have any muses. However he does like working with Kanye West.
"We've done some work together, and we're always talking and chatting," he smiled to Interview magazine recently. "I've been in the studio with him, and he's been in my studio, and we've been just constant. He's someone that I do really believe in, someone who stuck to their guns and did what they believed in, which I admire. I love him dearly."
