Kenzo designers excited for new audience with H&M line
The Kenzo designers are “excited” about people experiencing their brand for the first time through H&M.
The label, helmed by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, has followed in the footsteps of fashion houses such as Alexander Wang and Balmain in teaming up with the high street retailer for a clothing line. Customers can get their hands on the pieces, which include zebra print leggings and a multi-patterned dress, in stores and online from Thursday (03Nov16) and Lim can’t wait to see who buys their creations.
“It’s so exciting to think of all the different people who’ll be coming to buy Kenzo,” she told Vogue.com.au. “There will be teenagers who’ll be getting their first ever piece... and then twenty- and thirtysomethings who’ve made Kenzo part of their wardrobe since Humberto and I started at the brand.”
The pair, who also helm Opening Ceremony, were pursued for years to team up with H&M, according to the store’s head of design Ann-Sofie Johansson. She’s been monitoring people’s reactions to the range on social media and is thrilled to have witnessed customers planning which garments they hope to purchase.
Lim and Leon further explained why they made their deigns so vivid, noting that much of the inspiration came from the brand’s founder Kenzo Takada; especially the animal prints.
“Bright colours are such an amazing way of bringing a look to life,” Leon smiled.
“We want people to mix Kenzo into their own wardrobe and wear it their own way,” Lim added. “It’s something we’ve always believed in and it's the spirit of experimentation that you also find in Kenzo Takada’s work.”
Fans have been struggling to access the collection on H&M’s website though and have been sharing their grievances on Twitter.
“collection is proving harder to get than Glastonbury tickets- site is down :( @hmunitedkingdom,” one user wrote at the time this story was written, while another complained: “Of course H&M website is down just in time for kenzo launch #KENZOxHM #letmebuy”.
