Julia Restoin Roitfeld: 'I'm not as fashionable as mum'
Julia Restoin Roitfeld feels her style is in direct contrast to her famous mother's sophisticated high-fashion look.
The New York-based Parisian art director and model defines her style as minimal and classic, which she feels is the complete opposite of her daringly glamorous mother Carine Roitfeld, the founder and editor-in-chief of CR Fashion Book.
"I’m certainly not as fashionable as my mum: I’m quieter and less ahead," she told Ahlan! magazine. "I never go for something over the top; I wear what I like and feel comfortable in."
Julia, who shares daughter Romy with former partner Robert Konjic, added that as she is a busy parent, being stylish is not so much of a priority anymore. She swears by classic staples - a pair of black stiletto pumps, well cut jeans and a little black dress - when she has to go out.
The 35-year-old star is also an ambassador for the new H&M Conscious Exclusive collection, a role which she takes seriously as she has always been interested in generating environmentally-friendly fashion.
Julia feels sustainability is a fun way to get creative with clothes and suggests more designers embrace "mixing and matching old with new".
"I think it’s a great idea to use fashion as a way to create awareness around the topic of sustainability," she said of the Swedish high-street label's collection. "We all have to be more careful with the way we inhabit this world, and fashion can be part of the plan."
Julia further shared that the latest collection merges modern shapes with "historic feelings" by including classical motifs splashed onto clean-cut pieces as well as sleeveless tops with marble print and pretty blouses. The brunette beauty, who also runs a motherhood website titled Romy and The Bunnies, also noted she is very careful in selecting the detergents she uses to wash her clothes and tries to hand wash garments whenever she can.
