Jil Sander 'taps two new creative directors'
Jil Sander has reportedly tapped married couple Lucie and Luke Meier as its new creative directors.
Industry insiders have divulged to WWD that the fashionable pair is in line to take over from current helm Rodolfo Paglialunga, who began his stint in April 2014.
However, it’s thought an announcement won’t be made until March (17) following Paglialunga’s upcoming presentations, including at Milan Fashion Week: Men’s on January 14 (17).
This report comes after rumours Jil Sander was searching for designers back in November (16), meeting with a number of people including the Meiers. Sources claim Lucie Meier has already been seen at Jil Sander’s establishments in Italy, while another insider names Raf Simons, who previously worked at Jil Sander for seven years, as the link between the Meiers and the label.
Lucie helmed ready-to-wear and couture collections alongside Paglialunga under Raf Simons at Dior and she previously worked at the likes of Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga. Meanwhile her spouse Luke is the co-founder and designer of menswear label OAMC.
It is not yet sure what Rodolfo’s plans are. The designer previously had posts at brands such as Prada and Vionnet and Jil Sander marked his first foray into the menswear market. Speaking in 2015 the fashion expert discussed the importance of men’s fashion and how he approaches creating collections.
“My idea was to combine workwear and formalwear. I wanted to give the collection a new spin and follow my instinct," Rodolfo previously told Details magazine.
"The men’s fashion is definitely booming and expanding considerably. It is becoming a major force in the fashion market. Men have become more fashion-conscious than in the past, when they were much more conservative, and are now becoming more interested in investing in themselves," he said.
