Jeremy Scott unveils limited-edition UGG line

Jeremy Scott has collaborated with UGG on a limited-edition collection.

The quirky designer and creative director of Moschino has channelled his unique eye for fashion into several styles for the footwear label, which will cater to men, women, kids and babies.

Options include a more subdued Classic tall brown boot with the word ‘UGG’ embroidered on one and ‘Life’ on the other and a bolder finish covered in crystals and beads on a black background.

“I was an undercover UGG fan. They are so cosy and I love the way they look with pants and shorts,” Scott told WWD. “It’s not known for men to wear them so much here even though they are surfer-dude footwear. After trying them on in Waikiki a couple years back, I found myself in the store at The Grove and I was like, ‘I’m going to do this. I don’t care what people say.’’

Andrea O’Donnell, President of Fashion Lifestyle for Decker Brands, explained that collaborations have been popular within the company for a long time, though this marks the first occasion that it was carried out in a strategic way to benefit the business. Labels that have previously teamed up with UGG include 3.1 Phillip Lim, Jimmy Choo and Preen.

But it seems the venture with Scott, known for his pop culture inspired creations, was a long time coming, as O’Donnell noted, “I’ve always admired Jeremy; I think he does something special and different when fashion can be so serious.”

Discussing the design process of the line, Scott added, “It was a perfect space for me. I loved classic tall boot because it’s so recognisable and very indicative of L.A. and Malibu. That was my first impression, of Kate Hudson and Britney Spears wearing them. There’s a sense of nostalgia for that era right now.”

The collection will debut on 13 September (17) and the eight boots will retail from $90 (£69) to $1,195 (£921) at select global retailers and five stores in North America, including Chuckies and Just One Eye.
