Jean Paul Gaultier for Target Australia

Jean Paul Gaultier for Target Australia

Jean Paul Gaultier has teamed up with Target Australia on a 100-piece collection.

The French haute couture designer is famed for his stunning creations and fragrances, and is now adding another string to his bow. Following in the footsteps of fashion stars such as Stella McCartney and Roberto Cavalli, Jean is joining the retailer's Designers for Target collaboration with a range of menswear, womenswear, childrenswear and home products.

The range will contain 100 items - also including shoes and lingerie - starting from an affordable $10 and launching in early 2016. Jean went into the project with an aim to capture the "Australian lifestyle and approach to fashion".

"Every time I’ve been to Australia I’ve been impressed by the laidback, unstuffy confidence that Australians display with their fashion – it resonates with my design philosophy and has such synergy with my own approach to fashion and style," he explained in a statement.

"I believe in fashion that you can wear every day, not just on a catwalk - which is really what Target stands for at its core - which made it the right retail partner for me to choose to bring this range to market in Australia."

Stuart Machin, Managing Director of Target Australia, is thrilled to have the style icon involved with the company. He sees this collaboration as another example of Target's determination to bring high-quality fashion to the mass market at reasonable prices.

This isn't the first time Jean has joined forces with Target; in 2010 he created pieces for the US stores, which were a hit with shoppers. This latest collaboration marks his second ready-to-wear partnership of 2015, after he recently worked with Japanese retailer Seven & i Holdings. Titled Jean Paul Gaultier for Sept Premières, the 36-piece womenswear line launched in October (15), both online and at 7-Eleven stores in Japan.
