Jason Wu to launch Grey line for spring
Jason Wu is launching a new diffusion clothing line called Grey Jason Wu.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (12Apr16), the New York-based designer posted a photo of several clothing tags bearing the line's new logo with the caption “Introducing #GreyJasonWu,” to the 314,000 followers of his official account, who were encouraged to follow @greyjasonwu for updates.
The newly launched Instagram feed for Grey Jason Wu featured photos capturing sketches of looks from the new collection, with the range looking set to include printed shirt dresses, a shift or two, and a pair of wide-leg cropped white trousers.
Wu gave more details via captions, stating that the collection was “born from his desire to dress his friends, inspired by their dynamic personal styles.”
He added: “As the Jason Wu collection evolved over the last few years, I felt that there was room for a sister collection that very much addressed the needs of women who look for a beautiful, seasonless wardrobe that is neither too edgy or sweet.”
The collection, named for Wu's favourite colour, is made from Italian and Japanese fabrics and features whimsical details, such as pockets and contrast top stitching. WWD reports that prices are expected to range from $295 (£207) to $1,395 (£980).
Wu also collaborated with artist Hunt Slonem for the line, with his bunny print appearing on chiffon, a multi-coloured jacquard and embroidery on knitwear.
Grey is not Wu’s first foray into a secondary line. In 2012, he launched a contemporary collection called Miss Wu, which retailed exclusively at Nordstrom, with prices ranging from around $200 to $800. While Miss Wu is no longer in production, he has since collaborated with Target and is also the artistic director of Hugo Boss' womenswear line, a position he's held since 2013.
The 33-year-old has had an exciting week, travelling to Mexico to marry his long-time partner Gustavo Rangel this past weekend (9-10Apr16). Wedding attendees included actress Diane Kruger, jewellery designer Jennifer Fisher and blogger Bryanboy.
Grey Jason Wu will launch in spring this year (16) and will be available at selected retailers in June and through the collection's website.
