Jason Wu sets sights on further collaborations

Jason Wu is hoping to collaborate with more artists on his diffusion line.

The New York-based designer has just unveiled his fall 2016 Grey Jason Wu collection, which he describes as a "sister label" to his high-end main line.

The collection, named for Wu's favourite colour, is made from Italian and Japanese fabrics and features whimsical details, such as pockets and contrast top stitching. It also includes a day-to-night jumpsuit and playful dresses printed with artist Hunt Slonem’s famous bunny designs. The artist worked on a few bunny embroideries, too, but he wasn’t the only collaborator in the mix and Wu hopes to keep the line fresh by partnering with various creative types on the line.

"We partnered with Laila Gohar for our launch dinner last week," he told"And Pantone created our custom gray colour. We’ll work with more artists on prints and techniques in the future, but it’s also about collaborating in other senses."

The 33-year-old announced the collection via Instagram back in April (16), but he’s just now releasing the full lookbook, with the line about to arrive in top retailers such as Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, and Neiman Marcus.

And it seems Wu is on board with the see-now, buy-now model which has been shaking up the fashion industry, as he says he is keen to close the gap between when the collection is presented and when it can be purchased by fashionistas.

"I think it’s really important that the collection is available to buy when the lookbook is out," he explains. "It’s a nice way to release a collection, (rather than) during Fashion Week. I like the idea of intimacy and something a little more familial, and I’m really designing for my friends, so a more casual release makes sense."

Grey Jason Wu is available to purchase online from Thursday (16Jun16).
