Jason Wu gearing up for third Fila collection
Fila bosses in Asia are confident their third collaboration with Jason Wu will be a success.
The Taiwan-born designer may have moved to Canada as a child, but he has never forgotten his roots, which is seen clearly in his work with sportswear giant Fila, exclusively designed for the Asian market.
His third collection with Fila hits stores in December (16), and Brian Yiu, CEO of Fila China and Hong Kong, is positive the line will be another hit for the brand.
"The past two seasons were incredibly well received, and it’ll be the same for this one. With Jason’s name behind it, why wouldn’t it?" he told WWD.
"We worked very well with Jason. And hope to roll out more joint projects in the future, although I can’t say more than that for now."
Jason is just one of a long list of fashion stars teaming up with sportswear brands. The likes of Riccardo Tisci and Kim Jones have recently teamed with NikeLab, while Alexander Wang has joined forces with Adidas. Celebrities are also putting their names to sports clothes, which has helped the market excel when it comes to profits.
"We haven’t suffered at all from the economic slowdown," Yiu commented. "Workout clothes have become wardrobe staples, and synonymous with comfort. People don’t want to make sacrifices on that. What puts us in a very strong position in the market is that while other sports brands offer mainly gym clothes, Fila has become a one-stop label for casual attire."
