James Corden takes pop at Swarovski

James Corden has joked the CFDA Fashion Awards are like Groundhog Day "with the addition of Swarovski".

The British TV host has made a splash across the pond since taking over The Late Late Show and was chosen to present the glitzy fashion ceremony in New York yesterday.

He brought his trademark humour to the opening monologue, joking that it's "ridiculous" he was given the job and that tons of people had to cancel before they settled on him.

"Tonight, we will find out who is the Menswear Designer of the Year, the Womenswear Designer of the Year, and the Accessories Designer of the Year," he addressed the glamorous crowd.

"In addition to these awards, we will also have the Swarovski Award for Womenswear, the Swarovski Award for Menswear, and yes, the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design. Tonight is basically Groundhog Day, with the addition of the word Swarovski. I'd like to contractually thank our sponsors, Swarovski, tonight. Just in case you didn't know, they very much want you to know that they're involved in the awards this evening."

James, 36, also let off plenty of quips about his famous friends, referencing Rihanna's Dior campaign and deadpanning that it was surprising to see her wearing clothes. He also congratulated Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on their baby news, adding that momager Kris Jenner can't wait to meet the newest "cast member".

James also commented on Pharrell Williams' style, congratulating him on being able to make anything - "even Robin Thicke" - cool.

And in true Corden style, he couldn't leave the stage with one final quip.

"Thank you for being here, let's get this show on the road. Thank you for everything you are doing. The truth is, without fashion, we would all be naked, and if you're standing next to either me or Harvey Weinstein later, you're going to be thankful that that isn't the case," he grinned.
