Holly Fulton reveals Christopher Kane admiration
Holly Fulton is fascinated by Christopher Kane.
Holly is a successful womenswear and accessories designer based in East London, creating pieces worn by the likes of Hayley Atwell, Karen Gillan and Jaime Winstone.
She showed at London Fashion Week last month, where stars such as Amber Le Bon attended her presentation. But if Holly could take in the designs of any other fashion expert, it would be Christopher.
"I try not to compare myself to my peers, but if I wasn't showing at London Fashion Week I'd watch Christopher Kane," she told vogue.co.uk. "Above all else I have a huge admiration for how he runs his business and how he has cultivated an incredibly loyal team. He's someone that's a pleasure to know in the industry and his work truly fascinates me."
Holly's studio is in good company; Jonathan Saunders' workplace is downstairs and label Ostwald Helgason is in the same building. Holly enjoys having a "strong connection" with both brands and admits she'd be miserable if isolated from others in the industry, especially as she feels she is still finding her feet.
"Plus if you need a zip two days before your show, you know there's someone next door to borrow one from," she smiled.
"If you have difficulty getting money from a store you can ask other designers if they've dealt with them before. There are real business benefits to the studio set-up as well as it being a more natural and pleasant way to work."
It's an exciting year for Holly, who founded her fashion house in 2009. She's shortlisted for the 2015 BFC/Vogue Fashion Fund, with the results announced tomorrow. If she wins, Holly's prize will consist of high-level mentoring along with a £200,000 grant.
