Grace Coddington to launch new fragrance
Grace Coddington has teased the launch of her first ever fragrance with a fun cartoon.
The esteemed Vogue creative director has created rose-scented fragrance Grace by Grace Coddington, which will launch exclusively at London's Dover Street Market this month (Apr16).
The 74-year-old star, who is famous for styling Vogue's most lavish shoots, stepped down from her full-time role as creative director at large earlier this year (16) after 25 years at the fashion bible. She announced she was to focus on other ventures and on Thursday (07Apr16), Grace took to Instagram to share website for her new scent. The post was an animated nude drawing of the fashionista by animator Jonathan Eden, spritzing herself with the fragrance, with a jazzy piano soundtrack.
"I've launched a website!!!! I'm not sure how it works!!!! But please come visit anyway," she captioned on the video in her feed, which also takes a prominent place on the landing page of GraceCoddington.com.
Creating a fragrance wasn't an idea she was sure about at first.
“My immediate thought was something like, ‘But I’m not J. Lo, so how’s it going to work?’” she told The New York Times, after the idea was proposed by a friend and former co-worker. “I’m not really a celebrity person, but just by chance, my name is known a little bit, which I keep trying to deny, but it is. Then I think, well, if it is, maybe I’ll cash in."
The rose base of Grace by Grace Coddington is a scent the fashionista associates with childhood. The product is being produced by the perfume branch of the Comme des Garcons empire, whose resident nose, Christian Astuguevieille, developed the scent with Grace.
